5Possibly the best mixer I've ever used, bar none
By Todd Bartholomew
I've got to hand it to Kitchenaid, they've made the most indestructible bulletproof mixers known to man. I've have this hand mixer for well over a decade and it's never let me down; absolutely nothing on it has ever failed. And this is no cupboard queen...this is used regularly and pretty hard yet it is so versatile that I'm hard pressed to see the need sometimes for even a stand mixer, even though I do have one. What always sells me on Kitchenaid is not just the build quality, but the range and number of accessories available for their mixers. If you want KitchenAid Hand Mixer Dough Hooks, they have them. KitchenAid Hand Mixer Stainless Steel Pro Whisk? You bet! Kitchenaid seems lately to have given up on the 7-speed hand mixer and now opt for the cheaper simpler 5-speed or the pricier 9-speed, which is a shame. If you can find this unit at a good price go for it! The digital readouts still work all these years on and the motor has the heft and torque to knead dough and do anything else you could ask of it. Recently we decided to make homemade pasta and used my Sunbeam stand mixer to knead the dough. What a horrid waste of time as the Sunbeam lacks a power drive to the bowl. I quickly found myself wishing I'd gone with my reliable Kitchenaid as I know I could easily manipulate it just how I needed it AND had the kneading hooks to work the dough. That won't happen again. And it was then I quickly realized that entire generations on both sides of my family had some iteration of the good old reliable Kitchenaid hand mixer down the ages. And that brings me to my central point: you get what you pay for. If you want good quality you do have to pay more. If you want a mixer you'll be using ten, twenty, thirty, forty years down the road then this is what you should spring for! You can buy cheaper hand mixers but I bet they don't offer all the attachments you might want or need. With Kitchenaid you get all that and more!
