Product Description

KitchenAid's Professional 500 Stand Mixer is a substantial piece of equipment. The High Performance 325 watt motor delivers enough power to handle the heaviest mixtures, and mix large batches easily. It's body features durable, die-cast metal construction, and offers a direct-drive transmission with all metal gears. The sturdy lifting mechanism uses a metal arm and steel lever to effortlessly raise an ingredient filled 5 quart bowl. Ten speeds allow for everything from whipping egg whites to slow churning bread dough and the Soft-Start feature keeps power in check to prevent splashing and flour clouds. A unique mixing action spins the beater clockwise while the shift spins counter clockwise; this results in an even blend. As a safety measure, the motor stops in the event of an obstruction or overloading. The Professional 500 Stand Mixer includes a 5 Quart Stainless Steel bowl, Burnished flat beater, burnished dough hook, and wire whip to achieve all of your culinary t asks.

5Fantastic piece of machinery
By Tech junkie
This mixer is absolutely fantastic! The lift mixer is so much better than the stand style mixers in that the stand mixers get worn out and the bowl tends to jump around. I used to work with a stand style mixer and I would have to put all of my weight on the bowl while I was mixing stuff to keep the bowl from flying out into the kitchen! The motor is super powerful and I am very pleased with it. Since I started making everything we eat from scratch it is nice to have this great mixer to save me the labor of hand mixing stiff doughs and such. I noticed other people had problems with it. One person wrote that the bowl didn't stay in place at all, it needs to be snapped in, if you look at the back on the mixer you'll see a strip of metal where the bowl slides into, on the bowl where it meets the mixer is a metal nub, that's where it is supposed to snap in. They also said that they put the attachments in the dishwasher and they changed color. The instructions say to hand wash them ONLY!!!
It was an absolute pleasure just opening the box up that it came in. It came just as the seller described, brand new and shiny red. I look forward to years of use and everyday I admire it in my kitchen!

4Not like the old Hobart made ones, but still great
By pjm
I love my Pro 500. I use it to make pizza dough at least twice a week, plus whatever other baking we do. Never a problem. Grinds a little and makes noises that my old Hobart-built Kitchenaid never made, but that's what you get when current owner Whirlpool rides on the old reputation instead of maintaining it.

No new Whirlpool-built KitchenAid mixer will ever have the quality or anywhere near the lifespan of the old Hobart-built ones. That's a fact. But they are still the best for the money especially if you are too smart to pay retail.

As far as "plastic" gears go, this has been done in Kitchenaid mixers for many decades. It has nothing to do with being cheap. There is only ONE non-metal gear, it is nylon, not plastic. Its designed purpose is to strip out and fail instead of allowing whatever the problem is to bind the motor and ruin it. Without a nylon gear, dropping a spoon into the mixer would destroy the motor in seconds. Would you rather replace the motor or a little gear?

5Great Mixer!
By shootoo
Got a great buy on this larger size stand mixer from Amazon. I was not sure if I need this large a size, but for the money it was definitely worth it! I am not a professional baker, but I do make wedding and birthday cakes for family and sometimes I need to make a lot of frosting so I figured why not. You can make so many things with this, and it feels almost like your cheating when your doing your baking! It basically does all the work. The machine is very quiet when your operating it, and it looks nice and sleek and performs wonderfully. The only drawback to this machine is that it is so large you have to move it back and forth on the counter top because it does not fit well underneath when you actually are using it- and to move it, it is very heavy- if you have problems with your hands or arms, this would not be the machine for you. Besides that fact, I would recommend this product highly.
